1.1 Teaching Methods of the Teacher that you Observed

The teaching method used by teachers in SMP Pembangunan depends on the level of cognition of the students. The teachers are using various teaching strategies to cater the needs of diverse learners.


Most of the teachers are using the student-centered approach in which the teacher only acts as a facilitator of the teaching and learning process. Teachers use the philosophy of John Dewey in which the students easily acquire the lessons by learning by doing. After the instruction, students are able to apply their learning on the activities provided by the students. Discovery Approach is also used wherein the students discover their own effective way of learning. And also the Direct Approach, the traditional way of teaching wherein the teacher is the main source of information during the class discussion.


1.2 Learning Materials and Innovation

The book is the number one learning material used in SMP Pembangunan. The students and teachers also have their own book.


The school uses various learning materials to make learning more meaningful. The teachers provide simulation games wherein the students will enjoy and at the same time learn the content of the lesson. Videos and picture analysis are also used to further explain the lesson. There are other learning materials used such as visual aids, computer software and etc. The usage of learning materials depends on the topic being discussed.


1.3 Sources of Learning and Technology used by the Teachers

The sources of learning in SMP Pembangunan are based on the curriculum that they are using. However, the main source of learning is the book. Some of the books are provided by the government and some are owned by the school.


SMP Pembangunan has a variety of sources of learning materials which is accessible by all students and teachers. The school has a library that provides reading materials to be a source of learning. There are also laboratories, computer laboratory room, provided that will aid the instruction.


The school make use of the technology in delivering the lessons. Mostly, classrooms has their own projectors and speakers that aids the instruction. Through these, students can easily cope and acquire the lesson being tackled.

1.4 Authentic assessment used by the teachers


Outcome-based education is seen on how the teachers evaluate the knowledge acquired by the students. Authentic assessment is used by the teachers to evaluate the acquisition of knowledge gained by the students and also to monitor their learning progress. The teachers provide authentic assessments such as role plays, speech, debates and etc. Through this, the learning progress of the students will be easily monitored.
